In the post-truth era, combating the scourge of fake news requires technology and solidarity. Now You Know PH has joined Lighthouse Communities of Action as part of the #FactsFirstPH and CourageON coalitions led by Rappler. The partners’ objective is to further develop a community with an environment that encourages issue-based and truth-based conversations from verified online sources and stories on the ground. Given the strength of both organizations’ networks, with Rappler’s wide audience reach as a major news site and Now You Know PH’s established ties with youth organizations, from school and church communities nationwide, combating disinformation takes an expansive “nip it in the bud” approach.
Having successfully staged #NowYouVote2022, its official 2022 elections coverage and youth activation campaign, Now You Know PH provided the youth with a platform to have a more active, participative, and engaged role in the elections through factual reporting and conversations — by the youth, and primarily for the youth. Leading the way to a thriving civic engagement across different sectors, Lighthouse, Rappler’s new website that focuses on strengthening the community of advocates, utilizing data and smart technology, will further propel Now You Know PH’s advocacy of empowering the youth and their corresponding communities into inclusive and active political participation and sociopolitical development.
Through this collaboration, Now You Know PH is now more equipped to advance its current and upcoming efforts on content creation, events, and other initiatives such as webinars, special podcasts, and on-ground mobilizations among others focused on promoting youth participation and fighting disinformation. Make sure to check out Now You Know PH on Lighthouse for more contents.
