[#Marcos100Days] “Pagtitibayin ang PCGG”

During the campaign period, Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. vowed to strengthen the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG), the agency tasked to recover his family’s supposed ill-gotten wealth, by defining its role in the government’s anti-corruption drive.

More recently, PCGG has been fighting for its continued existence as lawmakers allied with Marcos Jr. renewed a push to abolish the agency created 36 years ago to run after the ill-gotten wealth of the Marcos family and their cronies.

Martial law survivors expressed alarm by moves to abolish the commission, saying no other agency could perform its role, even with another Marcos back in power. Former PCGG Commissioner Ruben Carranza noted that if Congress cared about solving the cases against the Marcos family, it should ensure the PCGG’s independence instead of abolishing the agency.
