Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated during the campaign season that he wants to raise the salaries of nurses and healthcare workers across the country as part of his “Tawid-Covid, Beyond Covid.”

According to Filipino Nurses United (FNU), health workers did not see any reforms to address their issues during the first 100 days of Marcos as president. Their Vice President Eleanor Nolasco said, “No change whatsoever as far as the long-standing issues and concerns of the nurses are concerned. [Marcos] heaped praises on nurses at the start of his term but that’s just about it.”

A month ago, The Department of Health (DOH) urged Congress to amend Republic Act No. 7305, the Magna Carta of Public Health Workers, to narrow the salary gap between health workers in government and private hospitals.
