ML@50: Word of the Day — “Metrocom”

Martial Law Word of the Day — terms that might confuse generations that never experienced Marcos’ brutality, but had meant life or death to the victims.

The Philippine Constabulary (PC) Metropolitan Command, or Metrocom for short, was one of the most feared words during Martial Law. They were troops who detained anyone who’s still out in the streets past the curfew hours.

Together with the military, the PC’s duties at the time went beyond simply arresting and detaining known oppositionists. They are implicated in the torture and murder of civilians, backed by numerous historical and firsthand reports.
